Voltage Optimisation at Glasgow Passport Office

Overview

SavaPower Voltage Optimisation is one of the most effective ways of reducing overall energy costs.

HM Passport Office

HM Passport Office is the sole issuer of UK passports and responsible for civil registration services through the General Register Office. Established in 2006, HM Passport Office provides accurate and secure records of key events and trusted passport operations. Their role is to issue passports to citizens of the United Kingdom on behalf of the Crown; the official government service to British citizens at home and abroad. The General Register Office oversees civil registration in England and Wales. They have 7 regional passport offices and over 50 passport interview offices across the United Kingdom.

The Glasgow Passport Office is a very large and high calibre building situated in the north of the city. The Passport Office was keen to reduce its carbon footprint. The decision was made to install SavaPower Voltage Optimisation as a critical part of the energy reduction strategy. SavaPower was selected due to it being a UK based manufacturer who have delivered quality and efficient solutions on the market.

The SavaPower installation team installed two Voltage Optimisation units to the Glasgow Passport office. The units was manufactured to include full energy readouts and standard automatic bypass system with low voltage cutout. Voltage Optimisation is designed to match the load voltage requirements with a lower supply voltage. This will ensure all equipment is running closer to the designed operational parameters.  It works by reducing the average supplied voltage of 242v, down to the nominal UK voltage of 230V. Most equipment is rated at 220V, so the process of voltage optimisation corrects the over voltage and improves the equipment lifecycle.
