Glasgow University Saves AC Running Costs

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. Today it is a broad-based, research intensive institution with a global reach. Furthermore the research led approach is one of the reasons why a degree from the University of Glasgow is so prized. In particular Glasgow university have developed a strategy that maximises energy efficiency. This can be seen cross energy generation, building conservation measures and behaviour change, whilst at the same time looking to maximise space utilisation.

As a result over 1200 Savacontrols have been installed across the site. Savacontrols were installed over a range of refrigeration units in research laboratories, kitchens and staff/student areas. The type of controls installed would range from popular single phase 3amp savaplug. These are used commonly used on domestic types, such as chest freezers and under counter units. Consequently our 3 phase units, ranging from 5amps to 25amps were installed on the university air conditioning systems.
